Spurs vs Liverpool
1 June 2019
7 pm GMT

The venue has a capacity for more than 68 thousand spectators and will become the second stadium in Madrid to host a Champions League final, after the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which has held 4 finals.

After some unbelievable semifinals where surprisingly Barcelona and Ajax were eliminated, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will define the winner of the 2019 UEFA Champions League.

A 3-0 favor in the first leg had put the Catalan squad in front against the Reds; so it was expected that the return would be a meeting of method, especially for the moment of both in their home league, in addition to the absences in the English team, Mohamed Salah and Firmino.

However, Jurgen Klopp team gave the match of their lives in the return at Anfield, and with a surprise 4-0 they eliminated a great contest favorite, with everything and Messi on the court.

Another great night for Liverpool in the highest club level competition.

For its part, the surprising Ajax had managed to get the advantage by the slightest difference to the Spurs in London, so they had their hand on the wheel for the return game at the Amsterdam Arena.

Everything was going on vain for the 'Sons of the Gods ', after the goals of Matthis de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech, however the ones led by Mauricio Pochettino came out in a state of grace for the second part, and an immaculate Lucas Moura signed three goals (the last one at minute 96') to sign one of the most dramatic series of the Champions League.

The reactions in social networks did not wait.

Apparently, many preferred the Amsterdam team, but the results show that logic is not always present in football.

Among the posts posted on social networks after Ajax-Tottenham are the memes and reflect what we are saying.

The "Reds" are victorious in the national confrontations against the Spurs, including two victories by 2-1 in the Premier League this season, but their only European tie was much tighter.

Alec Lindsay gave Liverpool a minimal lead in the first leg in the 1972/73 UEFA Cup semi-finals and Steve Heighway in the second leg, but a Martin Peters 'double' was not enough for the Spurs

Clashes in finals in national competitions
Liverpool - Tottenham 3-1, in overtime

(Final of the League Cup 1981/82)

"They seemed to have won the game until I scored after a Ray Clemence pass," Ronnie Whelan recalls.

The Spurs were ahead on the scoreboard for 76 minutes in front of 100,000 spectators at Wembley, but the late goal by Whelan, set the tables after Steve Archibald's goal on 11', changing the course of the final.

Bob Paisley instructed his players to go for the game in extra time showing the spurs that they were not tired and the resistance of The "Reds" was reflected with goals from Ian Rush and Whelan.

The Spanish duel was resolved with a clear 3-0 in favor of the meringues, who achieved their eighth title in the competition.

The only final between Italians to date was played at Old Trafford (England) and was characterized as a clash of great tactical rigor.

The previous thing resulted in a 0-0 in the regulation time and even in the extension, reason why the party had to be defined by means of the penitentiaries.

Dida was the great figure of the 'Diavolo', by stopping two shots, while the Ukrainian Shevchenko scored the penalty of victory for Milan.

Manchester United vs. Chelsea (2008) UEFA Champions League Final

It was the first time that two clubs in England reached the final and the match, played in the Olympic of Luzhniki (Russia), was characterized by an enormous intensity.

The parity on the court resulted in a 1-1 in regulation time, which would be maintained in overtime.

The penalty shootout is remembered for the slip - because of the rain - of John Terry, captain of Chelsea, who sent the shot away that would have given the victory to his team.

At the end of the day, Manchester United won their third Champions League, after Edwin van der Sar stopped Nicolas Anelka's shot.

Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund (2013) UEFA Champions League Final

The first final of the Champions League between Germans was played at the Wembley Stadium (England) and many consider it one of the best matches of recent years in this instance of the European tournament.

The final five years ago was played at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon (Portugal), being a very special edition of the Madrid derby.

The game was very disputed and many remember him for the goal with which Sergio Ramos, put the 1-1 draw for Madrid in minute 94.

Still today is still debating whether it was appropriate to give so much added time, because in that situation was that the goal of Ramos took place.
